Rated 1 Stars (out of 5) - Didn't work for me. After installation (I believe exactly according to the instructions), the Sharepoint server would return 403 Forbidden in response to any request. Running uninstall brought the server back to service.

Rated 5 Stars (out of 5) - This is really a very vital and amazing utility as it gives detailed information regarding site deletion, the name of the user who deletes the site,also it send an email to the site collection adminstrator regarding the site deletion.

Rated 3 Stars (out of 5) - The output is very verbose. For an out of the box site, the report was much longer than I cared to read. Not quite sure how the information is best used for upgrades. I opted for SharePoint Configuration Analyzer instead.

Microsoft IT Team Site Life Cycle Management is a custom Microsoft solution that provides lifecycle management for Windows SharePoint Services site collections through write locking, back up to disk.

The MSIT SLCM tool helps you by "archiving" (backup/delete) unused sites and automating the notification process of alerting owners of sites that are no longer in use. A site collection is used to administer the settings and configuration for the Site Life Cycle Management process.

Notable changes:

• Leaks fixed
• x64 MSI package now installs and generates configuration files correctly. Incorrect references to “C:\Program Files (x86)” are no longer present.
• Logging is now wrapped with lock calls to allow multiple components to write to the same log file.
• Logging now creates a new log for each Web Front End (WFE).
• Logging now creates a new log per day.

This tool automates splitting large Windows Sharepoint Services Databases into several smaller Databases. Based on an input, the process locks, backups, deletes and restores a SiteCollection.

If you are running MOSS 2007 or WSS 3.0 look at the new mergecontentdb stsadm command in the October 9 public update or in SP1.

This recycle bin used by Microsoft IT on WSS 2.0 and SPS 2003 servers is an administrative recycle bin for capturing files deleted via the web ui, FrontPage 2003 (FPRPC), the File APIs, and Web Dav. The SharePoint Reporting tool generates reports on how your SharePoint sites are being used on WSS 2.0 and SPS 2003. All data is collected using the SharePoint object model. This tool is read-only, it does not write to any sites. The tool can be used for multiple farms and the xml can be brought together in a single report.

This is a very handy tool for upgrades and can be used in conjunction with prescan to help you understand the depth and breadth of your environment.

This tool is used to get data on how many sites, sites by template, usage and storage data. The readme.txt file has more information on how to install and use the tool. This tool was first published on gotdotnet.

This people picker is designed to provide an easy to use picker based on entries in the profile database. It requires that SPS 2003 be installed, but it provides people picking capabilities to WSS 2.0 sites underneath the portal.

It is recommended that you understand the implications of this deployment prior to upgrade. You will want to uninstall this first before you upgrade.

It is not recommend to change the out of the box site definitions or _layouts files. This solution breaks those rules, but changes it back upon uninstall. Use at your own risk!
